Jabba the Hutt Cake

Jabba the Hutt Cake

I love birthday celebrations, especially the cake. Hubby’s birthday is always fun and this year I wanted to make his favorite cake with something a bit glutenous…enter Jabba the Hutt.

I first make carrot cake  and cream cheese frosting from scratch. It’s my theory that if you are going to spend hours decorating a cake, you might as well make the cake using great ingredients and take the time to mix all your ingredients yourself. Homemade cakes and frosting do taste better and make the world of difference! Frosting the cake is one of the things I dislike the most, so I simply pipped the frosting between the layers and stacked them together. I topped it with more pipped icing.

For Jabba, I used rice crispies for the base and then covered it with modeling chocolate (recipe here). I then set to work using food coloring watered down with vodka to paint Jabba. I simply used my artist brushes and thoroughly enjoyed making him look super creepy and grotesque.

What do you think?
