August Classes and Workshops
We’ve got a lot of fun planned for you this month!
DIY Studio is the place where you can focus on creating and feel good about the resources you create with. We take care of everything! From acquiring supplies, providing ample room, as well as teaching new and fun techniques, DIY Studio is your creative reuse center for inspiration and instruction.
Feel free to register online, at the shop, or fill out a registration form and write a check to DIY Studio and send it to: PO Box 13343, Salem Oregon 97309. We ask students to register one week in advance to make sure there is room in the class and so the instructor can purchase enough supplies. Please read DIY Studio’s Workshop and Class Policies carefully before registering for workshops and classes. We look forward to creating something wonderful with you!
Members Only Open Studio
Check our calendar for open studio time where you can spread out, use our tools, and create. You can purchase supplies and materials from the store, or bring them in. This is a members only perk so sign up to join DIY Studio and support creative reuse in Salem today!
Maker Thursday for Free Art Friday
(Every second Thursday of the month)
Thursday, August 8, 6-8pm, DIY Studio
Come play with reclaimed materials to create works of art to distribute on the streets of Salem. We’ll provide open studio time, inspiration, and supplies for one project. Other DIY Studio materials will be available for purchase.
All ages, Free for members, $2 non members

Odd Sock and Glove Monsters
Saturday, August 10th, 1-3pm, DIY Studio
Lurking in the laundry room is a insatiable creature that eats socks and gloves. Never the pair mind you, only the odd socks and gloves tickle his fancy. So what’s a reuse expert to do? Make odd sock and glove monsters of course! Let’s use our imaginations (and our mismatched socks and gloves) to create funky and friendly monsters. Simple sewing and hot gluing will be demonstrated along with creative reuse stuffing.
Ages 4+ (kids aged 4-14 are welcome with an adult)

Paper Boxes
Saturday, August 10th, 4-6pm, DIY Studio
Come learn how to fold a paper box, perfect for jewelry or small decorations and using paper scraps.

Learn to Chenille
Saturday, August 17, 1-3pm, DIY Studio
Chenille is a style of fabric recognizable by its soft lines and raised texture. Although introduced in the 18th century, chenille blankets and home décor became popular during the 1930s. It is popular today as a tribute to vintage style and in this class you will learn the basics of “chenilling.” Free with class fee, each student will receive a Clover Slash Cutter (MSRP $15) to help make chenille quick and easy.

Ages 14+
Funky Junky Upcycled Jewelry
Saturday, August 24, 1-3pm, DIY Studio
Step inside the studio and we’ll show you how to create three different upcycled jewelry pieces that you’ll love to wear. We’ll go over how to work with jump rings, how to re purpose found materials, as well as basic jewelry design.
$15 for members, $20 non members, pre-registration required
Ages 12+
Origami Basics
Saturday, August 24th, 3:30-5pm, DIY Studio
Come learn the basic steps to create beautiful and fun Origami. Stephanie will share her passion for the art of origami while you learn basic folds and projects as well as have free time to experiment under her guidance. All materials are provided.

Creative Reuse Craft Night: Pop Up Magazine Collage
Tuesday, August 27, Instruction starts at 6pm and 7pm, 6-8pm, Salem Public Library, Anderson Rooms
Bring your scissors and magazines to create imaginative popup collages.

What’s a pop up magazine collage?
We’ll use cardboard and magazines to create collages that have some pop up elements. Think of a pop up card but this could be displayed on a mantel or shadow box. 🙂
