Little Missy's Bird Nest

Today was crazy hair day at school. We were told to not let our kiddos wear coustums, however they could make their hair crazy, as long as it wasn't too distracting. Well, being the Halloween-loving mom that I am, Little Missy and I came up with this bird's nest idea. Yes, it was somewhat distracting, but really fun too! So we pushed the envelope a bit. Now what's kindergarten without a Halloween or harvest party? Come on! No parade of costumes (or hair), no snacks (her teacher doesn't allow snack in the classroom at all) and no games. How depressing!

Cake that Little Missy won from the Cake Walk at Church. She was so proud!

Even our church had a harvest festival...a church! If schools can't celebrate any holiday, isn't that going to the extreme? It reminds me of those "love sees no color" shirts of the 80s. I thought those were horrible to begin with (even as a kid) since yes, we should see color and we should CELEBRATE it! It it's not good enough to tolerate differences, we should embrace them. I'd rather schools celebrate and talk about ALL holidays since they are a part of one's culture AND CELEBRATE these things that make us so unique.

Letting Go

I'm usually the person embracing change. That's why I'm not sure why I'm so teary eyed watching this video clip of my daughter when she was in preschool. Her teacher was Teacher Judy who is such a gifted teacher that taught our children with warmth and compassion. She retired last year and my family misses her greatly. Oh the memories!

Growing Up

My son's first day of preschool was today. He was so excited to go and has been working hard at potty training. He still has accidents so I was a bit worried to drop him. I thought at any minute I'd get a phone call to come change him. When he got to school, he joined in the group right away and there were no teary moments! I'm so proud of him!

When I came to pick him up the first thing he said was, "I am big boy. I go to Preschool". I'm so happy for my little man!

While he and sister were at school I tackled some of the studio mess. Hopefully it will be cleaned soon and I'll take pictures and share them with you.

First Day of Kindergarten

I sent my daughter off to Kindergarten today. She was excited and brother did rather well. When we got to her classroom she met her friend Colin which was great. It’s so nice she knows other kids from her preschool class. We do miss our friend Ella who wasn’t able to get the in-district transfer. That's a bummer. But Colin's mom is organizing an enrichment group outside of school so our kiddos can still learn things they will be missing in half day kindergarten (i.e. music, hands on science, P.E) and Ella will be part of that.

Brother was a bit upset when we left the classroom. He got teary and said "I miss sissy!" He cheered up when we went home to bake cookies for church. Oh the comfort of licking chocolate chip cookie dough from the beater.
